H.H the emir inaugurates Gulf Gas-1 project in Ras Laffan industrial city

The emir of Qatar H.H Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani inaugurated on Thursday 9 November 2006 the project Gulf Gas-1 set up in Ras Laffan industrial city. The investments in the project cost more $1.200 m. the project will benefit from gas produced in the north field in producing associated condensates and gas liquids and marketing 1.75 billion cubic feet daily of gas. This will be pumped through pipelines to local markets and exportation. The project will be developed through phases so as to meet the obligations of gas sales and supply the Oryx plant.

H.E. Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, the second deputy premier, minister of energy and industry and chairman of Qatar petroleum (QP) gave a speech in which he explained that phase one of the Al-Khaleej gas project is yet another reason to be proud of the series of achievements in developing our country and gas resources.

This is happening at a time when Qatar is witnessing almost unprecedented development at all levels and in all sectors, H.E. Al-Attiyah said. He went on to say "this drive that has led to establishing Qatar's economic and international status was the natural outcome of an overall strategic plan initiated by H.H. the emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani. that plan had some major goals to achieve: enhancing stability, developing human resources, promoting a favorable climate for private investment, furthering open-up policies, developing the country's infrastructure, insuring the optimal utilization of natural resources, diversifying revenues and seeking projects that will add value to the natural gas extracted from the north field" Al-attiyah further said.
President of Exxon Mobil development company Mark Albers said that Al Khaleej is just one of many projects where Qatar petroleum and Exxon Mobil are partners to meet the world s growing natural gas demand.

The inauguration of this project comes in line with the plans of the state aiming at meting the increasing needs of natural gas in the local market. It also represents another great step towards achieving the appropriate exploitation of the country's resources of hydrocarbon and promoting the domestic industry and developing it.
This project is intended to provide sufficient volumes of natural gas to meet the country's domestic needs for natural gas.
