Qatar increases its LNG exports to India to 7.5m tons annually

Qatar's second deputy premier and minister of energy and industry, H.E. Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, who is currently visiting New Delhi met on 24 November 2006 with Indian Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh.

H.E. Al-Attiyah conveyed to the Indian premier the greetings of Qatar's Prime Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani.

During the meeting, they reviewed the remarkable relations between the two friendly countries, especially in oil industry domains.

The meeting was attended by Qatar's ambassador to India H.E. Mohammad Rafie Al-Immadi and members of the delegation accompanying H.E. the second deputy premier.

Indian minister of petroleum and natural gas Murli Deora expressed satisfaction over the growing progress in Qatari Indian relations, especially in oil industries.

Trading relations between the two countries date back to early periods of history and they started to gain further vigor over the past few years. The Indian minister said in a statement to the press.

The Indian minister expressed confidence that the growing bilateral cooperation would be reflected positively on mutual cooperation over the next years.

The two sides asserted their commitment to the terms of the agreement they signed a few years ago, under which Qatar supplies India with 5m tons of LNG for 25 years, and will increase by 2.5m tons as from 2009 so that Indian imports from Qatari Ragas project will reach 7.5m tons annually.

Earlier, Qatar's second deputy premier and minister of energy and industry H.E. Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah attended elaborate presentations made by eight giant Indian petroleum corporations featuring out their major contributions to oil industries around the world.
